[49] ὁμηλικίη δ᾽ ἐμοὶ αὐτῷ, ‘he is my own equal in years.’ It might seem at first sight more natural to interpret the phrase by aequalitas est mihi cum illo; but a comparison of 364 infra; Od.6. 23; 22. 209, shows that the regular use of “ὁμηλικίη” is for the concrete “ὁμῆλιξ”. Compare “δῆμον ἐόντα” = ‘being a man of the people’ ( Il.12. 213), like Horace's “Plebs eris,” Ep. 1. 1. 59 . See Monro, H. G. § 166. 2. In Aesch. Suppl. 46 “ἐπωνυμίᾳ” seems = “τῷ ἐπωνύμῳ”.
