[16] ἀγοραί. The plural here, as in ἕδραι, points to the different parts into which the place of assembly was divided. It seems better to take βροτῶν not as dependent on “ἔμπληντο” but as following “ἀγοραί τε καὶ ἕδραι”, as in “ἀνδρῶν ἀγοράς Od.2. 69, “βροτῶν ἄστεα” 15. 492, and the common phrase “ἔργ᾽ ἀνθρώπων. βροτῶν” could hardly stand pronominally for any particular men, such as Phaeacians. But see inf. 57.
