Dolios is described as father of the goatherd Melantheus, Od.17. 212, and of Melantho, the spoiled and faithless handmaid of Penelope, Od.18. 322.A Dolios appears in Od.24. 387, as the gardener of Laertes, the father of six sons. They can hardly represent the same character.καλέσειε. The optat. has here an imperatival force, as sup. 193.
