[323] “ἐκερτόμεον. κέρτομος” (h. Hom. Merc. 338) is generally derived from “κῆρ τέμνω”. It is probaby to be referred to root “κερ” (“κείρω”) only, as this root is often strengthened with an appended “τ” or its equivalent. So that with “κέρτομος” we may compare cort-ex, cult-er, Sanskrit kart-arI=hunting-knife.
