[278] ἐπὶ παιδός. The preposition gets its meaning of ‘along with,’ ‘accompanying,’ from its proper local force of ‘upon.’ Fäsi quotes Apollodor. ap. Athenaeum vii. 281 “τὸν ἕτερον ἐπὶ τοῦ ἑτέρου κατ̓ οὐρὰν ἑπόμενον”. Possibly ἐπί may be taken adverbially, and φίλης παιδός be regarded as a genitive of Price, as Il.1. 111.
