ὑπάρξῃ ‘takes the first step,’ is first in the exchange of hospitality. This use of “ὑπάρχω” is distinctively In Homer Attic. the simple “ἄρχω” sometimes has this sense: as Il.2. 378ἐγὼ δ᾽ ἦρχον χαλεπαίνων”.
