“τοῦ μ᾽ ἔκ φασι γενέσθαι”. Here the words are equivalent to ‘quoscunque nostis hominum prae ceteris aerumnam tolerantes, illis me aequare possem.’With ἴστε … ὀχέοντας compare “ᾔδεεν . . ἐόντα” Od.23. 29, and with ἐν ἄλγεσιν compare “αἴσῃ ἐν ἀργαλέῃ φθίσει” Il.21. 61, “ἰῇ ἐν τιμῇ” Il.9. 319.
