[106] ἀγρονόμοι. The paroxytone accent is right here, as “νέμειν” and “νέμεσθαι” are used actively in the sense of ‘haunting.’ Schol. H. P. Q. notices that others accented the word proparoxytone; and Schol. V. E. proposes “ἄγραν νέμουσαι” as a possible interpretation. In Soph. O. T.1103 we find “ἀγρόνομοι πλάκες”. Cp. Il.20. 8“νυμφάων . . αἵ τ᾽ ἄλσεα καλὰ νέμονται”.
παίζουσι seems used here with the notion of ‘hunting,’ which we technically call ‘sport;’ so Soph. El.566“πατήρ ποθ᾽ οὑμὸς, ὡς ἐγὼ κλύω, θεᾶς” “παίζων κατ᾽ ἄλσος ἐξεκίνησεν ποδοῖν”“στικτὸν κεραστὴν ἔλαφον”.
