[456] ἠυγένειος. This epithet of a lion (cp. Il.15. 275; 17.109; 18. 318) is commonly rendered ‘bearded,’ from “γενειάς” or “γένειον”, like “ἠύκομος” from “κόμη”. But it seems more likely that the word is only a lengthened form of “εὐγενής”, analogous in form to “ἐπιτήδειος, κυανοπρώρ-ειος”.
