μεῖναι. From the negative “οὐ χρεώ ἐστι”, we must supply the corresponding affirmative “χρεώ ἐστι” = ‘it is possible,’ or rather ‘all that is needful is.’ Cp. Od.18. 145“ὃν οὐκέτι φημὶ φίλων καὶ πατρίδος αἴης”“δηρὸν ἀπέσσεσθαι, μάλα δὲ σχεδόν”, sc. “εἶναί φημι”.
