[366] For the more rhythmical reading ἔκηεν ἰδ᾽ it may be noticed that “ἠδέ” after a negative (instead of “οὐδέ”) seems to be allowed when the things denied constitute in effect a single notion. So 21. 233 “οὐκ ἐάσουσιν ἐμοὶ δόμεναι βιὸν ἠδὲ φαρέτρην”, Il.9. 133(=275) “μή ποτε τῆς εὐνῆς ἐπιβήμεναι ἠδὲ μιγῆναι Il., 11. 255οὐδ᾽ ὧς ἀπέληγε μάχης ἠδὲ πτολέμοιο”. In these cases there is a kind of hendiadys.
