[91] ἀπειπέμεν, ‘to speak out his mind.’ Here the word is used without a following accusative, as Il.9. 431μάλα γὰρ κρατερῶς ἀπέειπεν”, but the full expression “μῦθον ἀπηλεγέως ἀποειπεῖν” occurs below (373) and Il.9. 309.These passages confute Nitzsch's interpretation of ‘renouncing,’ ‘breaking off with’ the suitors. Cp. Aesch. Agam.934εὖ τόδ̓ ἐξεῖπον τέλος”.
